I figured out how to articulate my why. What is my north star to guide me?

Curiosity and Connection.
I like going on mental rabbit trails online and finding new people and ideas to explore. Learning of new resources, thoughts, ideas, or ways to improve my future. Or things tat might help others.
Connection was one of my Strength Finders results. I like finding and getting to know good-hearted, kind and interesting people. Having conversations about bowling balls, to learning, to hopeful things and ideals. Intellectual Hospitality instead of debates. Edifying chats and encouraging friends.
From my podcasts to my digital legacy keepsake business, curiosity and connection is the through-line that motivates me to do what I do.
My blog and Substack newsletter is a way to share my thoughts and findings connecting me to my readers.
Jordan Peterson inspired me with his rule: “Don’t do what’s expedient, pursue what’s meaningful.”
Curiosity and connection are deeply meaningful to me. I didn’t know that those where my why. It was by acting and moving forward in pursuing a better future that I have stumbled and half discerned this about myself.
Not all curiosity nor connecting are good and healthy for us. Curiosity can be a vice. And any and all connections can be too overwhelming. Network marketing is a numbers game. There are software apps to manage relationships note taking such as CRM or Client Relationship Management. I have lightly researched them, but I’m not as studious to use one. I tend to be spreadsheet avoidant.
There is also the Dunbar number that we can only mentally handle up to 150 relationships. It should be noted they will only be associates not the two to six close friends.
The Dunbar number and network marketing is at odds with each other. I’m not sure what to say about that. As an extrovert, I like meeting new people to talk to. But I’m not social butterfly comfortable having in depth conversations with strangers. I like to get to know people a little first either by referral, reading about them on their website or social media bio page, and/or an actual chat with them. I don’t want to connect with anyone or everyone. I prefer to have some things in common or for them to have some character traits I respect.
I’m not in silo, nor am I without boundaries and preferences.
So the excesses or negative aspects of curiosity and connection are contained or negated. Too much of a good thing is the equivalent having dessert all the time instead of proper meals. So, its wise to be mindful of not getting lost in the forest in my journey to discover new things and people.
With those guardrails in place, pursuing curiosity and connection is an edifying endeavor.
